Dick's Sporting Goods – Family-run since 1948
Dick's Sporting Goods was founded in 1948 by Richard “Dick” Stack who borrowed $300 from his grandmother to open a bait and tackle fishing supply store in Binghamton, New York. By the mid-1950s, Dick had expanded his store into a general sports merchandise retailer and by the early 1960s, he opened his first store named "Dick's Sporting Goods". Today, Dick's Sporting Goods is run by his son, Edward “Eddie” Stack, and head-quartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The retailer now has over 25,000 employees and operates over 500 stores in more than 40 states across the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South, and Midwest. Dick's is also in the Fortune 500 and had $5 billion of revenue in 2011. Dick's Sporting Goods sponsors several professional sporting events, teams, and venues including the Dick's Sporting Goods Open, Dick's Sporting Goods Park, and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
