Zales - Jewelry since 1924
Zales was founded in 1924 in Wichita, Texas by Morris Zale, William Zale and Ben Lipshy. Their initial marketing strategy consisted of a deferred payment program, where customers were to put a penny down and a dollar a week to pay for their purchases. This strategy made fine jewelry more affordable and allowed the company to survive the Great Depression. By 1942, the company had 12 stores in Oklahoma and Texas. Today there are over 800 locations and the retailer is headquartered in Irving, Texas. The company's annual revenue approached $2 billion in 2012. There are over 12,500 employees nationwide and the company has been publicly traded since 1958.
