Sprouts Market - A family venture
Sprouts Market was founded by Henry Boney in the form of a fruit stand opened with his wife Jessie. The business was expanded to a number of retail businesses until his sons created a new brand of supermarkets called “Henry's Marketplace” in 1969. The family sold the company to Wild Oats in 1999 and founded Sprouts in 2002 in Phoenix, Arizona. In the next two years, the retailer expanded to both Texas and California. As of 2012, the retailer expanded to nearly 150 stores across Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Texas and Utah. There are now 12,000 employees and the company remains headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona.
