Save Mart is a supermarket retail chain located in Northern and Central California and Northern Nevada. Stores are separated into different sections, offering the customers a variety of products. Sections include produce, bakery, meat and seafood, dairy, and dry foods. The locations also provide a full range of beverages and have adult beverages such as beer and liquor. At certain Save Mart locations, customers can find a fully operational pharmacy where doctor prescriptions can be filled. Over-the-counter medicine is available and pharmacists will answer any questions customers might have. The company prides itself with practicing "green technology" to reduce its carbon footprint. Such technologies include water based refrigeration systems, energy monitoring systems and a composting program. A rewards program is offered to customers and provides money saving points for customers' next fuel purchase at Shell gas stations.
Save Mart - Homegrown in California
Save Mart was founded in 1952 in Modesto, California. By 1960, the company was operating ten stores in the Modesto area and later moved into Fresno, California. The company continued to grow through acquisitions and partnerships, such as the Mid-Valley Dairy products which produces dairy for Save Mart. In the 1980s, the company was still acquiring companies and expanding, and in 1986, purchased a food warehouse division, which operates under the name Food Maxx. In 2007, the company had its largest acquisition with the purchase of 128 Albertsons stores in Northern California and Northern Nevada. Today, Save Mart operates 226 stores and has over 20,000 employees. In 2011, the company had net sales of $4.8 billion.
