Sam's Club is a membership-only warehouse retailer that sells many items in bulk. Customers must first register with the company and get a membership card before they can shop there. These membership cards are checked at the entrance and at checkout. They carry a very large selection of products, from furniture to clothing. The electronics section features TVs and other media devices, as well as cellphones and cameras. There is a jewelry department with watches, rings and other items. The grocery section features an in-house butcher shop, bakery, and a large selection of frozen goods. Outdoor living is a very large section, including grills, gardening supplies, outdoor playhouses and patio furniture. Many locations also have a gas station, often offering lower gas prices for members.

Sam's Club was launched in Midwest City, Oklahoma in 1983. The following year, membership to the retailer had grown to over two million. As of 2008, national membership to the retailer exceeded 47 million members. The company operates over 600 membership warehouse clubs in 47 U.S. states. They are headquartered in Bentonville, Arkansas and appointed Rosalind G. Brewer to the position of President and CEO in 2012. Most stores sell in bulk, where merchandise is taken directly off the pallets. A normal store is very large, between 70,000 and 130,000 square feet. In 2009, the company launched Más Club for Spanish-speaking customers in the Houston, Texas area.
