Price Chopper – Groceries since 1932
Price Chopper was founded by brothers William and Bernard Golub in 1932, when they opened their first self service supermarket called “Public Service Market” in Greenwater, New York. They expanded their stores across the Albany metropolitan area and were one of the first supermarkets in the country to issue customer rewards stamps. In 1973, the chain decided to change their business model and provide better value for their customers. The name of the stores also changed to Price Chopper. Today the chain has over 100 retail locations and roughly 24,000 employees. It is headquartered in Schenectady, New York and remains one of the largest private companies in the United States.
