Payless ShoeSource - Shoes on a budget
Payless ShoeSource was founded in 1956 in Topeka, Kansas by cousins Louis and Shaol Pozez, with the concept of selling budget footwear at self-service stores. The company’s dedication to keep prices low was apparent from the beginning, and so the successful concept soon expanded to other states. By 1962, the company had gone public as Volume Distributors, later being renamed as Volume Shoe Corporation to more strongly reflect its place in the shoe industry. Not until 1991 did the company change to its current name that is now recognizable in any American household. From three stores in Kansas to over 4,200 stores in the Americas and beyond, Payless ShoeSource has become the largest shoe retailer in the US, reporting annual revenues of over $3 billion.
