P.C. Richard & Son - A true family business
P.C. Richard & Son has its humble beginnings in Brooklyn, where the first hardware store was opened by Dutch immigrant Peter Christian Richard in 1909. His son Alfred J. Richard was instrumental in the firm’s operations during the store’s early years. With a talent for sales, he was the first person to sell an appliance - an electric iron - which marked the start of the company’s focus on appliances. By the 1940s, P.C. Richard & Son had gained popularity in the Queens area where the store relocated, with Alfred serving as president after his father’s retirement. The company witnessed a major expansion in the following decades, but only in the 1990s did P.C. Richard expand to NJ and CT and to PA in the 2000s. Today, the company is the largest private chain of appliances and electronics stores in the United States, with the fourth generation of Richards at its helm.
