The Gap is a specialized retailer focusing on clothing, accessories, and personal care products. In retail stores you will find clothing for both men and women. Gap Inc. - From one store to globally recognized

The Gap was founded in 1969 in San Francisco by Don and Doris Fisher. The first store sold Levi Jeans and LP records, and was an immediate success. By 1973, four years after the first store opened, the company had 25 stores and had expanded to the East Coast market. Today, the Gap has around 136,000 employees and operates 3,000 stores and has over 300 franchises worldwide. Net sales in 2011 were 5.6 billion dollars. In the past few years the company has been more globally focused and has opened more stores abroad in China, Australia, and Italy. The Gap also owns five other speciality brands. These brands include Banana Republic, Old Navy, Pipertime, Athleta and INTERMIX.
