Fry's Food and Drug was founded in 1954 by Donal Fry in California. The retailer expanded into Arizona before being sold in 1972. The company was then focused exclusively on the Arizona food market. The headquarters is located in Tolleson, Arizona and over 18,000 people are employed by the chain. They have subsidiary brands, including Fry's Marketplace (branded for full service), Fry's Signature (branded for upscale neighborhoods), and Fry's Mercado (branded for the Hispanic market). They are now owned by The Kroger Co. and remain the Arizona-area franchise of the parent company.
