Finish Line - Three friends and an athletic wear empire

Finish Line was founded in 1976, in Indianapolis, Indiana by three friends who were runners and wanted to start selling and promoting the latest trends and styles of footwear. The three owners unfortunately found out that a similiar store was already up and running, The Athletes Foot, but they decided to purchase the franchise and started growing the business. By 1981, there were 12 TAF stores in the Indiana and Louisville areas. In 1982, once the franchise rights were sold, the three deciding to open a competing store, hence Finish Line was born. The company expanded relatively rapidly by acquiring the old franchise they used to run and by going public on the stock market. Today, the company has over 660 locations in 47 states and in 2012 had a net revenue of $1.4 billion.
