Fiesta Mart - "Come see us and taste the excitement!"
Fiesta Mart is a Texas-based chain of supermarkets established in 1972 by Donald Bonham, who had helped to set up supermarkets in several Latin American countries, and O. C. Mendenhall, an experienced grocer from Oklahoma. The first store opened because its founders believed that Houston's large Mexican-American population were not adequately catered to by local businesses. That first store proved to be a success and seven more were opened by 1982. Over time, the company found that its “open market” format and large product assortment appealed not only to Hispanic customers but also to other members of Houston's international community. Later, as Houston's demographics changed, so did Fiesta Mart, adding African, Indian, Korean, Filipino and Vietnamese items, among others. The company is now a subsidiary of Grocers Supply, who acquired it in 2004. Fiesta Mart now has 60 stores in the Houston, Austin, and Dallas-Fort Worth areas which serve customers from more than 90 countries of origin.
