Elder-Beerman - Department stores since 1883

Elder-Beerman is a department store chain and was founded in 1883 by Arthur Beerman in Dayton, Ohio, originally under the name Boston Dry Goods Store. They merged with Elder & Johnston Company in 1963, earning its current brand name. The company is headquartered in York, Pennsylvania. The retailer was acquired by Bon-Ton Stores in 2003. Beginning in 2012, the department store chain underwent a rebranding effort, which reduced the total number of stores nationwide to 37 from 42. The retailer sponsors a Goodwill Sale twice a year, whereby customers can receive discounts on merchandise when they bring in clothing donations to the store.
