Burlington - Wholesale retailer to outlet giant
Burlington Coat Factory Warehouse Corporation was founded in 1924, where it began as a wholesale retailer of coats and suits for women and young ladies. The first outlet location was opened in Burlington, New Jersey in 1972 by Monroe Milstein and his wife Henrietta, offering mostly coats at that time. Burlington Coat Factory now has over 470 stores in almost all 50 states. The company also owns MJM Designer shoes and Cohoes Fashions. The retailer was acquired by Bain Capital, LLC in 2006. After Bain Capital assumed ownership of Burlington Coat Factory, they changed their return policy to include cash and credit card refunds; prior to 2006, the retailer only offered store credit for returns. The company headquarters is still located in Burlington Township, New Jersey.
