Aldo - International vision, local favorite
Aldo Bensadoun founded Aldo Shoes in 1972 in Montreal, Canada as a private shoe label. Starting first as a footwear concession label then as a freestanding store in Montreal by 1978, the brand continued to expand in the 80s and 90s in Canada. After a test run in Plattsburg, N.Y. in the 90s and the opening of its first store outside of North America in Israel in '95, Aldo Shoes continued to expand globally, with stores opening up in England, Saudi Arabia and Singapore by the 2000s. In 2010, Aldo made a major expansion into the U.S. market by teaming up with JC Penney to launch an in-store brand Call It Spring, and shortly after teamed up with Kohl's department stores to design and produce footwear products exclusively for the store. Currently, Aldo has stores in 80 countries worldwide, while the headquarters of the company continue to be in Montreal, Canada.
