Ace Hardware - Tools and equipment
Ace Hardware is an independently owned hardware retail chain. Local entrepreneurs run local stores and provide customers with hardware, plumbing, paint, and gardening products. The stores are geared towards do-it-yourself workers looking for materials for small home projects to larger commercial projects. Locations vary in size and products depending where the store is located. Hardware products consist of nails, screws, hinges and tools to help customers finish projects or fixes as quick as possible. Customers can find piping and valve products in the plumbing sections of stores. Ace Hardware stores have a large supply of paint and painting products readily available. Gardening tools, plants, and soil are accessible in the gardening section. In some store locations, customers can find animal feed and patio furniture. Services, like propane and key cutting are available to customers at Ace Hardware locations.
Ace Hardware - An American cooperative since 1924
Ace Hardware was founded in 1924 in Chicago, Illinois by a group of hardware store owners. They chose the name "Ace" from World War I fighter pilots. The company was formed to supply individual stores with hardware, by having them buy products in bulk to save money. This strategy allowed other hardware stores to compete against larger chain stores by saving money. By 1949, hundreds of Ace Hardware stores had opened. The company continued to grow over the years through profits and acquisitions. Stores are independently owned as a cooperative, not a franchise. This means that stores do not have to look the same or offer the same products. Today there are over 4,400 stores across the United States, and in 2012, Ace Hardware reported a net revenue of 3.8 billion dollars.
