Tips for shopping in Little Rock

Named after a local landmark on the bank of the Arkansas River, Little Rock is the capital of the U.S. state of Arkansas. Prior to the arrival of European settlers, the area was inhabited by Native Americans. More recently, residents have included Bill Hicks, who was born in Little Rock, while both Bill and Hilary Clinton famously resided there, too. Today, Little Rock is home to an abundance of activities for visitors and residents alike. Arkansas Arts Center is the largest cultural institution in the state, while Arkansas Repertory Theater is both non-profit and is the largest of its type in the state. The national department store, Dillard's, is headquartered in Little Rock, which is not surprising for Forbes Magazine's 22nd-best city for business in 2005. Other popular retailers can be found in the Mittowne Shopping Center, or in West Little Rock; the city's largest shopping district.
