Tips for shopping in Dallas
Dallas, Texas, or the “Big D”, is the third-largest city in Texas and is part of the larger urban agglomeration called the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. This area in North Texas houses a population of about 1.2 million inhabitants. Dallas' robust economy boasts the third-largest concentration of Fortune 500 companies, mainly in the areas of banking, medical research, and health care. Dallas was incorporated as an American city in 1856, before which it was part of New Spain, and then Mexico. Dallas has a humid subtropical climate, and during the summer months is second only to the Mojave Desert region in the Southwest in terms of heat, with temperatures often rising above 100°F. Dallas is also home to some very successful sports teams including the Cowboys, Stars, Mavericks, and Rangers (the latter is officially based out of neighboring Arlington). There is no shortage of shopping destinations in Dallas, starting with the Galleria Dallas, rated by USA Today as “one of the top 10 places to spend it all.” Here, you'll find an international mix of shops, boutiques, and department stores in an attractive, modern environment. For those on foot, the West Village, or “Uptown's Downtown”, is a great place to window shop, enjoy the weather and people watch.
